About myself

Kamal Thapen

I trained in London, completing the three year, full time Alexander Technique training course over twenty years ago. I am a member of the Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (STAT) and have sat on its governing council. I am registered with the Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC). I am also a member of the European School of Tai Chi Chuan.

I got involved with the technique due to persistent non specific low back pain. This was my only way of obtaining long term relief.

I work with private pupils from all walks of life from cab drivers, musicians , teachers, lawyers to academics. I taught at the Constructive Teaching Centre and at a halfway house for a charity, the Philadelphia Association. I also used to train teachers at the City Alexander Technique School in Old Street. I hold workshops for companies and organisations like VSO, Southwark Council, Accenture and Chanel.

I teach group courses in the Alexander Technique at the City Lit (details), an adult learning centre in Holborn. Also at South Thames College in South London (details). Tai Chi is also something I teach at both colleges.

Before my training I worked in the printing industry for many years. I understand the pressures and demands of commercial life and the impact that stress has on the body.
